Kelly of the Wild

Narwhal Family

$160

Meet the Unicorns of the sea! These lovely beings are called Narwhals (Monodon monoceros) and they are only found in the #arctic ocean, moving great distances in small pods between ice sheets and coastal waters. That legendary ivory tusk is mostly found in males, and is actually a really big tooth which grows right through the narwhal's upper lip as it matures! Scientists are not certain of the tusk's purpose, but some National Geographic scientists believe it is prominent in mating rituals, perhaps used to impress females or to battle rival suitors.
