We view the world through one lens regularly, the lens we were born with, the set of values, perspectives, and things we think are important, all instilled in us from a young age. However, the reality is there exists a kaleidoscope of perspectives outside of humanity and society, and this lush environment is one such whimsical viewpoint you can see for yourself just below the waves of the bay.
The Endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtle is primarily a sponge eater, think like what your loofa is made out of, using its narrow hawk-like beak to pull soft morsels from crevices on the reef, which in turn frees up space for young coral polyps to grow! Sponge colors and patterns can seem so surreal and illusionary, and when found bunched in a bouquet, can indicate an imbalance in the environment. This lushness pays homage to the decline in both corals and Hawksbill sea turtles over the previous three decades, which are the core factors that lead to an explosion of sponges that encroached on Florida reefs.
