Pisces - Canvas Poster

$48

This Sea Turtle artwork is inspired by the coral spawn that happens only once a year at midnight under the full moon in the Florida Coral Reef Tract. with the title, "Pisces" referencing the constellation in the sky that's known to be two swirling fish in love, representing new life, rebirth and the promise of the future, if you look closely you can find the constellation hidden in the stars! During the spawn in 2018, I had the opportunity to visit the reef with The Florida Aquarium's Center for Conservation team and see the research done to save Florida's corals!

Over the last few years, Florida's coral reef tract, the third largest in the world, has been losing it's remaining stony corals to a disease called "Stony Coral Tissue Loss" that literally causes the corals to rot. To save the last of the genetically distinct Pillar Corals native to the keys, the CFC team was on a mission to capture the coral spawn, possibly one of the last, and to nurture the polyps into adults in the Aquarium's facilities, called Arks! They were successful, and thanks to this dedicated team, we now have over 3,000 baby corals protected for future generations and out-plantings onto the reef!

To fully capture the mystery, and the impact of this event, I wanted to paint a midnight scene lit by the full moon, which is when the coral all spawn together, like a snowstorm underwater. 10% of every print sold is donated directly to the Center for Conservation, so they may continue their work to save our corals! Thank you for your support, our oceans need you and your passion today, more than ever!

By adding this bold piece to your home, you are directly supporting Biscayne National Park initiatives to protect and restore the bay! :)
