Two Simple Steps for Choosing The Right Frame
Deciding what frame to pick for your artwork can be tough, whether you’re redecorating or buying your first piece of art it can seem daunting figuring out the type, size and lining that will look best in your home. No worries though, I’m here to help you with this quick and simple guide!
Your Guide
1: Decide what room your artwork will be displayed in
Are you sprucing up the living room with a fresh coastal theme or brightening up the bedroom? Whatever room you are displaying the artwork in, it's important to pick one or two main colors that are prominent in the space and use those as your starting point for picking a complimenting frame.
- Pick the room
- Find the artwork you love
- Pick 1 - 3 main colors from your room theme
As an example, if you have a living room with a tan couch, blue pillow accents and a white wood coffee table then I would suggest using a "white wood" or "coastal wood" to frame a vibrant ocean scene.

On the other hand, if you have a dark leather couch, dark wood coffee table and warm, yellow or orange accents, I would suggest framing your art in a darker frame like the "Mottled Wood" or "Dark Ornate Wood".

2: Deciding on the size of the artwork
With step one done, we now need to figure out what size your framed artwork should be.
This is important because a painting too small for your space will feel dwarfed and out of place, while a piece too large for your space will be overwhelming. I have a few examples below of the suggested sizes for your living room, bedroom, hallway and bathroom.
- Living Room:
If you want to make a statement I recommend panoramic sizes 18" x 36" and up, traditional rectangular sizes 30" x 40" and up, or a collection of three "24 x 36" pieces in a row.
Panoramic Framed Print - "Coral Meadows", 36" x 72"
- Bedroom:
- Hallway:
Hallways and foyers can be great places to display any size artwork you want! However, I typically recommend a rectangular landscape sized 36" x 48", or a set of three artworks with similar themes sized 24" x 36" and up.
Landscape Framed Print - "Gentle Traveler", 36" x 48"
- Bathroom:
For bathrooms and tiny spaces I recommend small 11" x 16" collections of three or one medium 16" x 24" piece.
Collection of three Framed Prints - "Seahorse Collection"
