Florida Panther

The Florida Panther defines the heritage of Florida. As a resident of this beautiful state, I was inspired to create this piece to raise awareness about the critical situation of this keystone species. 

This portrait focuses on a specific young male panther who was collared and tracked early in the recovery effort; he left the breeding range, crossing the river, navigating busy roads and development, and making it as far as I-4 before he returned back to south Florida. He helped create the framing for how panthers were using the remaining wild spaces, which eventually became the geographical Florida wildlife corridor. By sharing this painting, I hope to connect you with the spirit of an amazingly resilient animal, and shine a light on the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect these majestic big cats and their habitat.
